Day 1: Arrival in Leh (3,500m)
  • Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, transfer to hotel for complete rest.
  • Acclimatization day – stay hydrated (4 liters water minimum) and avoid exertion.
  • Evening walk to Leh Market and Shanti Stupa if feeling comfortable.
  • Expedition briefing about Zanskar journey and altitude safety protocols.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Leh.
Day 2: Leh Sightseeing – Thiksey, Shey, Sangam (80 km round trip)
  • Visit Thiksey Monastery – 12-story monastery complex with stunning Indus Valley views.
  • Explore Shey Palace with 3-story high copper-gilt Shakyamuni Buddha statue.
  • Drive to Sangam viewpoint – witness confluence of Indus (brown) and Zanskar (blue) rivers.
  • Visit Hemis Monastery (optional) – largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh.
  • Evening: Final preparations and equipment check for Zanskar expedition.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Leh.
Day 3: Leh to Kargil (220 km / 7-8 hours)
  • Drive via Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and Indus-Zanskar confluence.
  • Cross Fotu La (4,108m) and Namika La (3,718m) passes with photo stops.
  • Visit Lamayuru Monastery set in dramatic moonscape landscape.
  • Stop at Mulbekh to see 9-meter rock-carved Maitreya Buddha (7th century).
  • Arrive at Kargil town along the Suru River valley.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Kargil.
Day 4: Kargil to Padum via Pensi La (240 km / 8-9 hours)
  • Drive through spectacular Suru Valley with views of Nun-Kun massif (7,000m+ peaks).
  • Cross Pensi La (4,400m) – gateway to Zanskar Valley, with views of Drang Drung Glacier.
  • Visit Rangdum Monastery isolated in a vast plateau – photo opportunities.
  • Navigate through narrow gorges alongside Stod River entering Zanskar.
  • Arrive at Padum, administrative center of Zanskar Valley.
  • Overnight: Guesthouse/Hotel in Padum.
Day 5: Padum Sightseeing – Karsha and Stongdey Monasteries
  • Visit Karsha Monastery – largest in Zanskar with 150 monks, perched on hillside.
  • Explore Stongdey Monastery (11th century) with ancient murals and thangkas.
  • Walk through Padum town, interact with locals, visit traditional Zanskari homes.
  • Visit Stakrimo village and monastery ruins (optional).
  • Rest and preparation for next day’s trek to Phugtal.
  • Overnight: Guesthouse in Padum.
Day 6: Padum to Phugtal Monastery Trek and Gonbo Ranjong Camp (80 km drive + 4 km trek)
  • Drive to Cha village via Purne (65 km, 3 hours) – trailhead for Phugtal trek.
  • Trek to Phugtal Monastery (4-5 hours, 8 km round trip) – built into cliff cave, accessible only by foot.
  • Explore this architectural marvel housing 70 monks in complete isolation.
  • Return trek to Cha village and drive to Gonbo Ranjong camping area.
  • Cross Bardan village en route with views of ancient monasteries.
  • Overnight: Camp at Gonbo Ranjong (basic facilities).
Day 7: Gonbo Ranjong to Manali via Shinkula Pass (350 km / 12-14 hours)
  • Early departure (6:00 AM) for long journey across Shinkula Pass (5,091m) to Himachal Pradesh.
  • Navigate challenging terrain through Zanskar’s remotest areas – 4×4 vehicle essential.
  • Cross into Himachal via Darcha, joining Leh-Manali highway at Jispa.
  • Drive through Keylong and cross Rohtang Pass (3,978m) descending into Kullu Valley.
  • Dramatic landscape transition from barren Himalayas to lush green valleys.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Manali.
Day 8: Manali Departure
  • Morning at leisure for Manali exploration or rest after an adventurous journey.
  • Transfer to Manali bus stand or Bhuntar Airport (50 km).
