  1. How difficult is the Manali to Leh cycling expedition?

This is a challenging high-altitude expedition best suited for intermediate to advanced cyclists with good fitness levels. You’ll be cycling over 500 km across Himalayan terrain, with steep ascents, unpredictable weather, and multiple high mountain passes (above 4,000 m). Proper acclimatization and training are key.

  2. What is the best time to cycle from Manali to Leh?

The ideal time is July to early October. During these months, the roads are clear of snow, temperatures are manageable, and most support facilities are operational.

  3. What is the total distance and duration of the trip?

The route covers approximately 550 km over 10–12 days, depending on itinerary and pacing. This includes rest days and a ride to Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes (optional but highly recommended).

  4. What kind of fitness is required?

You should be able to comfortably cycle 50–80 km daily for multiple days. Cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, and mental grit are essential. We recommend a 2–3 month preparation plan including long rides and elevation training. Talk to us, and we’ll guide you on how to prepare.

  5. What kind of terrain and weather should I expect?

Expect everything – smooth tarmac, rough patches, river crossings, and steep gradients. Weather can vary from sunny 25°C days to sub-zero nights, especially around Baralacha La, Nakee La, and Tanglang La.

  6. Are support vehicles and medical help available?

Yes. We provide dedicated support vehicles, a first-aid trained expedition leader, and oxygen cylinders for altitude emergencies.

  7. What kind of accommodation is provided?

You’ll stay in a mix of hotels, guesthouses, and high-altitude campsites, usually on a twin-sharing basis.

  8. Can beginners join this expedition?

This route is not ideal for complete beginners. However, fit first-timers with strong cycling or trekking backgrounds can do it with proper training. Talk to us, and we’ll guide you on how to prepare.

  9. What’s included in the package?

All meals during the ride, accommodation, support vehicles, guides, basic first aid, and luggage transfer. You can find the detailed inclusion and exclusion list on our trip page.

Yes, we offer well-maintained mountain bikes (MTBs) for rent, suitable for Himalayan terrain. If you bring your own bike, you must carry spare parts as listed in our Packing List.

  11. Do I need any special permits?

Yes, and we take care of it. You’ll need permits for certain restricted areas and passes like Rohtang La and Khardung La. Permit fees for Indian nationals are included.

  12. How do I deal with altitude sickness?

We follow a gradual acclimatization schedule, stay hydrated, eat well, and avoid overexertion. Our guides monitor for symptoms, and oxygen support is always available in our support vehicle.

  13. What is the group size and rider-to-guide ratio?

We limit batches to 12 – 15 riders, with trained leaders and  support vehicles. This ensures personalized support and a safe riding environment.

  14. Will mobile network work along the route?

Mobile network is patchy after Manali. BSNL, Jio and Airtel work in some areas like Keylong and Leh. Be prepared for long stretches with no connectivity, which adds to the adventure!

  15. What if I can’t complete a day’s ride?

No problem! Our support vehicle is always there to transport you and your bike safely to the next stop. This expedition is about pushing yourself, not punishing yourself.

  16. Can I join solo or do I need to form a group?

Absolutely! Solo travelers are welcome. You’ll meet like-minded adventure seekers and become part of a supportive and inspiring cycling crew.

  17. What happens after reaching Leh?

After reaching Leh, we celebrate with a completion ceremony, distribute certificates, and offer an optional ride to Khardung La (highly recommended). Return travel can be arranged from Leh Airport.
