Overview:
This mountaineering expedition targets Kang Yatse II (6,250m), a prominent peak in Ladakh’s Markha Valley. Ideal for experienced climbers, the route combines a scenic trek through alpine meadows and villages with a technical ascent of snow slopes and rocky ridges. The itinerary ensures proper acclimatization for safety at high altitudes, offering stunning views of the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges.

Day 1: Arrive in Leh (3,500m)
Acclimatization day to adjust to high altitude.
Optional light walk to Shanti Stupa or Leh Market to explore local culture.
Gear check and expedition briefing with climbing team.
Overnight: Guesthouse or hotel in Leh.
Day 2: Acclimatization Day in Leh
Morning acclimatization walk to Thiksey Monastery (3,600m) or nearby ridgeline for gentle exercise.
Final equipment checks (crampons, ice axes, ropes) and team briefing.
Overnight: Guesthouse or hotel in Leh.
Day 3: Drive from Leh to Chilling (3,400m), Trek to Markha (3,710m) – 10 km
Drive (~65 km, 2 hours) along the Zanskar River to Chilling village.
Begin trek along the Markha River, crossing wooden bridges and passing local settlements.
Arrive at Markha village, surrounded by barley fields and views of Kang Yatse.
Overnight: Camping at Markha.
Day 4: Markha to Nimaling (4,700m) – 10 km
Gradual ascent through alpine pastures and streams, with Kang Yatse dominating the skyline.
Pass Umlung village and ancient mani walls.
Reach Nimaling, a vast grazing ground with panoramic views of the Zanskar Range.
Overnight: Camping at Nimaling.
Day 5: Nimaling to Kang Yatse II Base Camp (5,200m) – 8 km
Short trek to Kang Yatse II Base Camp, navigating rocky terrain and moraines.
Set up camp and conduct skills refresher (rope techniques, crampon use).
Rest and prepare for summit push.
Overnight: Camping at Kang Yatse II Base Camp.
Day 6: Kang Yatse II Summit (6,250m) and Return to Base Camp – 10 km
Early start (~2 AM) for summit ascent. Climb moderate snow slopes and rocky ridges (Grade PD, some technical sections).
Reach Kang Yatse II summit, with breathtaking views of the Ladakh and Karakoram ranges.
Descend to Base Camp by afternoon.
Overnight: Camping at Kang Yatse II Base Camp.
Day 7: Kang Yatse II Base Camp to Chokdo via Kongmaru La (5,280m) – 12 km
Trek to Chokdo via Kongmaru La, the highest pass on the route, with spectacular views.
Descend through gorges and colorful rock formations to Chokdo village.
Drive back to Leh (~40 km, 1.5 hours).
Overnight: Guesthouse or hotel in Leh.
Day 8: Depart from Leh
Morning transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for departure flight.
Optional visit to Leh Palace if time permits.
