Lamayuru to Chilling Trek Itinerary
Overview:
This scenic trek through Ladakh links the ancient monastery town of Lamayuru with Chilling on the banks of the Zanskar River. The route traverses traditional villages, high-altitude passes, and hidden valleys of the Sham and Zanskar regions. A mix of cultural exploration and high-mountain trekking, it’s perfect for those seeking a short yet immersive Himalayan experience.
- Trek Distance: ~40 km
- Highest Point: Dung Dung Chan La (4,830m)
- Route: Leh → Lamayuru → Wanla (trek) → Hinju (drive) → Sumda Chenmo → Dung Dung Chan La Base → Chilling
Day 1: Drive from Leh to Lamayuru (3,510m)
- Drive west from Leh toward Lamayuru
- En route visit Likir Monastery and other cultural sights
- Evening visit to Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh’s oldest and most picturesque gompas
- Camping overnight at Lamayuru
Day 2: Trek from Lamayuru to Wanla (3,250m), then drive to Hinju (3,720m)
- Begin trek from Lamayuru, cross Prinkti La (3,750m)
- Descend into the Yapola Valley and reach Wanla
- After lunch, continue by vehicle to Hinju village
- Overnight camping at Hinju
Day 3: Hinju to Sumda Chenmo (3,950m) via Konski La (4,950m) – 15 km trek
- Challenging trek with a steep ascent to Konski La Pass
- Panoramic views of Ladakh and Zanskar ranges from the pass
- Descend to the secluded valley of Sumda Chenmo
- Camp overnight near the village
Day 4: Sumda Chenmo to Dung Dung Chan La Basecamp (4,400m) – 9 km trek
- Trek through remote trails and gentle terrain
- Reach the base of Dung Dung Chan La
- Prepare for final day’s pass crossing
- Camp at basecamp
Day 5: Dung Dung Chan La Basecamp to Chilling (3,400m) via Dung Dung Chan La (4,830m) – 11 km trek
- Early ascent to Dung Dung Chan La, the trek’s highest point
- Spectacular views before descending into the Zanskar valley
- Arrive at Chilling, a traditional metalwork village on the Zanskar River
- Trek concludes here
- Drive back to Leh

- Maximum 12-15 kg in duffel bag (goes on horses/mules)

Tip: Pack light and smart. Layering is key for Himalayan weather!
Cancellation Policy
Payment Schedule:
- Booking deposit: ₹15,000 per person to confirm reservation
- Balance payment: Due 15 days before trek start date
Cancellation Charges:
- 15 + days before trek: 25% of total cost
- 10-14 days before trek: 50% of total cost
- Less than 9 days before departure: 100% (no refund)
- After trek starts: No refund for early exit or unused services
Important Terms:
- Refunds processed within 14 business days
- Cancellations must be in writing via email
- Permit fees non-refundable once processed
- Company not liable for trek cancellations due to weather, landslides, roadblocks, or force majeure events
- In case of such events, option to reschedule
- Travel insurance covering trekking activities strongly recommended
